The story of Edwin

Edwin Oosterveld

Marketer

From the morning rush with his children to strengthening the Sidcon brand, Edwin Oosterveld, marketer at Sidcon since 2021, takes us through his day.

“As a father of 2, my day starts with taking the kids to school, and hopefully without any accidents. They both cycle to school independently now, but it does not always go smoothly. For example, my son nearly rode into a car while crossing the street because he was not looking. Luckily, I was able to warn him just in time that a car was coming, and everything turned out fine. Once the kids are safely at school, I cycle to work myself.”

“While cycling, I try to avoid listening to music so I can let my thoughts wander freely. Sometimes I am not in the mood for that, so I put on an inspiring podcast instead. By the time I arrive at work, I already have a clear to-do list in my head and can get started right away, although I usually check my emails first.”

“Another daily task is checking LinkedIn to see if there are any comments I need to respond to, whether a post is performing well or not, and hopefully to find inspiration for the next post.”

A day in the life of a Marketer

“Every day, I aim to do at least one thing that will make Sidcon better in the long term. Structurally working on improvement is my goal. Right now, our marketing department is working on giving Sidcon a more personal and recognisable identity. That is both inspiring and fun to work on. There are just the 2 of us in the team, and depending on the project, we work closely together. We each have our own specialties, and we try to make the most of them.”

“What I enjoy most about my job is being involved with so many different departments. I work with many colleagues, I need things from them, and they need things from me. That way, you help every department, and ultimately Sidcon as a whole, improve. For example, working on HR topics like how to attract better candidates more quickly. Today I am also working with the sales department. As marketing, we naturally generate leads for sales, so I collaborate with them regularly.”

“At the end of the day, I always try to finish my tasks. Or at least get them to a point where it is fine to leave them for a while. Then I cycle back home.”
