Sidcon makes presence felt in Cannes
4 underground compactors in Cannes
In Cannes, the city of the Palme d’Or, Sidcon has also been making its presence felt. The first underground Sidcon compacter in Cannes!
Many municipalities and waste-collection operators have already made acquaintance with our innovative, sustainable products in the Netherlands. In Cannes, the city of the Palme d’Or, Sidcon has also been making its presence felt. The first underground Sidcon compacter in Cannes! Together with Vconsyst France, last August Sidcon installed no fewer than four Presstation Pros in the recently refurbished Rue Félix Faure. Our compactors were officially handed over to the city of Cannes in a ceremony officiated by its mayor, David Lisnard.
France is quickly making up for lost ground in its bid to introduce modern waste collection systems. Tourist centres, such as Cannes, have been finding it difficult to meet capacity in busy summer months, when tourists descend on the town in large numbers. But now, given the opportunity to collect 10 times as much waste at any one site, many towns are jumping at the chance.
Rue Félix Faure is a busy thoroughfare with many restaurants frequented by tourists and festival-goers alike. Until recently, waste was collected in large wheelie bins and at peak times they were being emptied 6 times a day: that amounts to 40 times a week. Sidcon’s underground compactor provides the perfect solution to deal with the problem of waste in Cannes.
For example, 2 compactors were installed for packaging waste. And another 2 compactors for non-recyclable waste. These are now emptied just twice a week on the basis of online fill-level monitoring. Needless to say, this has resulted in huge cost savings in transport, but also in much less inconvenience in this attractive neighbourhood. Last but not least, use of these underground compactors means that the above-ground containers can be done away with, creating a lot more space in the street.
The city has made known its delight at having this innovative solution.
In the Netherlands, Sidcon’s underground compactor has expanded from almost nothing to become a highly successful and desirable product. Since 2018, other countries too, have been discovering the benefits and the convenience of this public waste container. Other notable cities, such as Copenhagen (Denmark), Bergen (Norway) and Hamburg (Germany), have been taking a leaf out of the Netherlands’ book. All of them have installed one or more Sidcon containers. In Cannes no fewer than four are located in its famous boulevard. “It’s hard to think of a better calling card,” says Sidcon managing director, Reinier Siderius.
We will happy to inform you about the benefits for your specific waste collection requirements. More than 100 municipalities have already done so.
