Save costs and reduce CO₂ emissions with refurbishment

An underground compactor typically has a service life of 10 to 15 years. When components wear out or become technically outdated, replacing the entire compactor is not always necessary. Through refurbishment, the existing installation can be rebuilt and given an additional 10 years of service life.

How does compactor refurbishment work?

Sidcon manages the entire process, from removing and transporting the compactor to refurbishment and reinstallation. At our workshop in Nijmegen, we inspect the installation and determine which technical components need to be replaced.

If required, we can provide a temporary replacement container. This ensures that waste collection continues throughout the refurbishment process while minimising inconvenience for residents and users.

During refurbishment, the compactor can also be adapted for a different waste stream. For example, a compactor used for plastic packaging, metal packaging and drink cartons can be converted for residual waste, allowing it to remain aligned with the municipality’s current collection strategy.

Why choose refurbishment instead of replacement?

During refurbishment, a large number of components are reused. This reduces the need for new materials and manufacturing, lowering both the investment cost and the associated CO₂ emissions.

Each refurbished compactor saves more than 2,750 kg of CO₂. This represents approximately a 50% reduction compared to the production of a completely new compactor.

An additional 10 years of service life with confidence

Refurbishment is not a temporary repair but a comprehensive renewal of the compactor. It enables municipalities to continue using existing installations for longer, postpone major investments and reduce their CO₂ emissions at the same time.

“At Meerlanden we believe the underground compactors give an added value. They are in keeping with a waste management service that has its eye on the future.''
