As a service coordinator, Micky is involved in all kinds of tasks: from planning the service technicians’ schedules to ordering parts and managing stock. It is precisely this variety that makes the job interesting for him. And although he joined Sidcon without a technical background, he is gradually building up his knowledge in that area too.
“I studied Logistics Management at HAN University of Applied Sciences in Arnhem. It was a part-time degree programme. Before this, I worked at another logistics company, but I wanted to do something different and also work a little closer to home. Then I came across the vacancy for service coordinator at Sidcon. It sounded like something I would enjoy.
My degree also fits the role well in some areas. We have a warehouse here, of course, with all the processes that come with it, and we plan the schedules for the service technicians. I did similar things in logistics. The technical side, however, was completely new to me.”
At my previous company, I missed the feeling that the work ultimately contributed something to society – a sense of purpose, you could say. In logistics, you’re mainly moving a box from A to B. Here, you’re working with the environment, waste management and keeping the streets clean. There’s more behind what you do, and that gives me more satisfaction.”
''I’m responsible for planning, process work orders, order parts and keep track of stock. I have to do lots of different things, and that’s what I enjoy. You’re not working on the same thing all day.”
“Mainly the fact that it’s so varied. I’m responsible for planning, process work orders, order parts and keep track of stock. I have to do lots of different things, and that’s what I enjoy. You’re not working on the same thing all day.”
“Setting up the stock management system. When I started here, there wasn’t really a system in place at all. I put quite a few hours into getting that organised. Now, ordering generally runs very smoothly and we hardly ever find ourselves without the parts we need. Of course, sometimes you have to deal with suppliers’ lead times, but overall it works well. I’m proud of that.”
“Mainly Production. They obviously order a lot of parts as well. Sometimes, for example, we only need five units, while the minimum order quantity is fifty. In that case, we discuss whether we can use something the other department already has or who is best placed to order the part.”
“Mainly when I’m responsible for planning and a service technician runs into a technical issue and has a question. Because I don’t have a technical background myself, it can sometimes take a bit of figuring out. I then consult colleagues so we can help the technician move forward. At the same time, I’m constantly trying to expand my technical knowledge, for example by taking a course. The technical side was new to me when I started here, but it’s also an area where I’m learning more and more.”
