More space, less congestion and cleaner air

The unique compactor mechanism increases capacity by six to ten times! More capacity in the same concrete well. This means:

  • Fewer containers and more open spaces around town;
  • Fewer waste collections and lower carbon emissions.

Because of the increased capacity, the underground compactor is ideal in locations with high waste flows. These include town centres, high-rise accommodation and locations where waste is collected centrally.

But also more isolated locations – such as villages or holiday parks – where the underground compactor is also ideal for reducing the number of collections.

How can one container be so much cheaper?

No more rows of above-ground or underground containers, but instead, a single underground compactor. Daily emptying is no longer needed: instead just once a week.

Whilst the reasons for choosing an underground compactor may be self-evident, at what point does it become financially viable? For example, the investment costs for three normal containers exceed those for just one compactor. But from just two normal containers, a compactor can seem like an interesting alternative too. After all, there are additional benefits, such as savings in space and lower congestion levels on the streets and in the neighbourhood.

It’s also important to consider how often a waste location is emptied. If a site is emptied three times a week, then an underground compactor works out cheaper.

Fewer waste collections mean quieter streets and cleaner air.

Personnel issues, expensive refuse trucks and air pollution. And increased traffic congestion. All of are reason enough for seeking out ways to reduce waste transport.

An underground compactor is a simple means of achieving this goal. If there’s a concrete well already in place, it can be used for our compactor. If the location doesn’t yet exist, we can arrange the power connection, the installation and the full service.

An underground compactor gives you immediate results. Because the lifting system can be adapted, modifications to the collection truck are not required.

Each type of waste flow requires a separate approach.

Disruption-free operation of the compactor is paramount. Prevention of jammings is an important part of our waste-collection process. For that reason, our containers are tailored to the waste flows. This adaptation allows the free fall of the waste. The powerful compactor mechanism helps prevent jamming. In the unlikely event of this happening, a notification is sent via our online portal, whereupon direct action can be taken by our service department. Our waste compactors have various sensors on board to indicate their status. This is an important guarantee for cleaner streets.

Sidcon has three types of compactors: for plastic packaging; for paper and cardboard; and for residual waste.

A safe street for my children.

Guus lives in a typical 1930s house with the rest of his young family. He lives on a narrow, cobbled street with lots of kids who like to play on the pavements.

‘The underground compactors have to be emptied three times a week by refuse trucks entering the street. With all the parked cars, the street gets even narrower. It’s already difficult to drive down the street in a private vehicle, let alone a refuse truck.

As a parent, it would be much better if there was just one waste collection per week. And if possible, once every fortnight.’

How the compactor mechanism works.

To compress all the waste, the container uses a steel auger, which forces the waste down. The fuller the container gets, the greater the compression force. This is how the compactor achieves its high waste capacity levels.

The mechanism has been designed so ingeniously that the value of the waste is retained. That’s good for sorting the waste, whether at source or afterwards.

Sidcon’s approach is unique and as such has developed a robust, extremely high-capacity means of waste collection.
